SpyChase 3D by Muddy Glass Software, $9.95
Reviewed March 2004 by Eric Falk

Secret agent, bounty hunter, or international spy? It's all the same; you have one mission, get the enemy. Here's the catch, you'll need to weave your way through a dense forest on a rocket launching motorcycle at dangerously fast speeds to catch your opponent. Think you're up to the challenge?

SpyChase opens with a brief synopsis of the first mission and your objective. After this quick introductory briefing, you'll be ready for game play. The first 8 missions can be thought of as the first level, as they all take place in the same setting. Armed with a rocket launching motorcycle, your objective is to chase and shoot down your opponent who is equipped with a very fast super bike. It won't be easy to capture your opponent, as there are many obstacles you'll need to weave between and jump over which all threaten your own life. Set in a true three-dimensional world, your first mission takes place in a forest. As you capture the opponent in each mission, you advance on to the next more challenging mission. Each mission becomes more and more difficult to complete, as there are more obstacles such as trees, mines, and bushes coming at you at ever increasing speeds. However, you are armed with a powerful gun that has an unlimited supply of ammo. This is good, but even better news is that you can pick up bonuses such as heat seeking rockets that will make capturing your opponent much easier and quicker.

SpyChase is a very intuitive and easy to play game, although mastering each level is not so simple. You are given the option to customize the button layout and controls, however I found the default choices to work very well. From the main menu screen you are able to view the high scores, customize the button layout and controls, and start a new mission.

Muddy Glass Software has done a wonderful job creating a true 3D world with top-notch graphics and art. The user can seamlessly maneuver their bike in any direction they want, all in beautifully rendered 3D graphics. Although the graphics and game play hit the mark, the sound effects aren't anything to write home about. The game supports any device running Palm OS 3.5 and up.

Playing Hints and Tips

You begin SpyChase with 3 extra lives in reserve. Although you can only store up to 5 lives, I recommend getting all the extra life bonuses you can in the early missions. This will help you when the competition gets more intense in the more advanced missions. Also, be careful not to turn too hard on your bike. I've lost many lives in SpyChase from running into trees and mines when I cut too hard left or right.

Ratings (scale of 1 to 5):

Graphics

Excellent true 3D world with high quality art and graphics.

Sound

Although SpyChase's sound is optimized for OS5, it's nothing more than simple beeps.

Fun Meter

Although the game can become quite intense, I would really love to see a more developed storyline, some images and stats of the characters your chasing, and some kind of a reward system.

Addictivity

Very intense game play that will keep you obsessed until you complete the next mission.
