Super Reax by GamAzura Price: $14.95
Reviewed January 2005 by Marc Morgan

Super Reax by GamAzura is an addictive jewel-swapping game with a new concept. At the first look, it seems like another Bejeweled clone. You’ll find that it’s completely different. Super Reax is full of different modes, sounds, power-ups, themes, and extras, you’re sure to be impressed.

There are eight different game modes in Super Reax, four that are already unlocked, and four that need you to unlock them. Throughout all eight of the modes, there is one basic concept: slide the bars of different items so that 3 or more items of the same type are aligned. Once that happens, there is an explosive reaction, the items you matched disappear, and if you’re lucky, there will be a chain reaction. Every once and a while, a gold coin will show up. If you create a reaction right next to it, you collect the coin, and can use it to buy “merchandise” in the bonus shop. In Score Game, the idea is to get three items in a row, and every time 100 items have been removed, you level up. The game ends when there are no more moves. In Time Attack, the object is to get three items in a row, and every time 100 items have been removed, you level up. Every two levels, you will receive a New Grid Bonus, so if you’re stuck, you can get a new grid. The game is over when the bar runs out of time. In Bonus Game, the idea is the same as Time Attack, but there is a twist. Every once and a while, a bonus item appears. If you make a reaction right next to the bonus item, you get to use the bonus item. Some examples of bonus items are: clearing a 3x3 area of items, clearing a row of items, clearing a column of items, clearing random items, clearing a row and column of items, and clearing a specific type of item. In Explosion Game, there is yet another version of Time Attack. This time, to cause the reactions, you have to press the detonator once you have lined up three or more items. This gives you the potential to create a mega-combo, but, the time limit forces you to be quick. In Endless game, the idea is the same as Score Game, except that every time there are no more moves, you get a new grid. It really is endless. In Berserk Game, the idea is the same as Time Attack, except the fact that you have to get four items in a row to cause a reaction, and there are only four types of items. In Mega Bonus Game, the idea is the same as in Bonus Game, except there are more bonus items, and they are more powerful than before. Lastly, in Super Nova Game, the idea is the same as in Explosion game, except you have to get four items in a row to make a reaction, and there are only three item types in the game. All these modes promise hours of gameplay!

The controls in Super Reax are similar to most other puzzle games. To move a bar, you simply drag it, using the stylus, in the direction you want it to move. In Explosion Game, you simply tap on the detonator to start the reaction. Navigation through the menus works the same as in other games.

When you start Super Reax, you will be greeted by bright, vibrant colors. These beautiful colors are everywhere throughout the game. As part of the Bonus Shop, you can buy skins to use during gameplay. These skins are really themes that change the looks of the interface, and items during gameplay. It adds a nice effect to the game. Also, during gameplay, there are plenty of explosions to be seen, and every once and a while, the items will spin, which also adds a nice effect.

Although there is no music in Super Reax there are plenty of sound effects to be heard. In some of the modes, such as in Mega Bonus Game, you will likely be hearing constant explosions, leveling up, and items falling into place. The sound effects add a great effect to the game, but can be turned off from the options menu if you need silence.

If you thought Super Reax was simply another Bejeweled clone, think again. The sliding concept is new, and works extremely well. The eight game modes will keep you entertained for hours. The colors and graphics are great. Finally, although there is no music, the sound effects make up for this. Super Reax is a great game to add to your collection!
