If you think you are brave, go beat the
monsters in a dungeon. If you think you are smarter than
a monkey, prove it with Coconut Island. Developed by Clickgamer,
the people who brought you Cropped Out and a Commodore 64
emulator for the Pocket PC, Coconut Island pairs you up with
playful monkeys on the Coconut Island who will challenge
you to beat them in games.
There are three games in Coconut Island:
Coconut 4, Fruits Ahoy and Slingshot. Coconut 4 is a Crusoe
game where you and a monkey climb atop of palm trees on either
side of a 6x7 (slots) board. Whoever lines up 4 coconuts
in any direction wins the game. In Fruits Ahoy, you play
as a sailor and row a boat between the two coconut trees
to catch fruits thrown by two monkeys. It sounds simple enough,
except the monkeys will throw bombs sometimes between the
bananas and coconuts. And a pirate ship lurks not far from
the beach and sneak in cannon shots when they see fit. You
will die if catch the bombs or get shot by the pirates. In
Slingshot, however, you are not as defenseless as in Fruits
Ahoy. You have a mighty sling that not only can shoot the
coconuts, crabs and clams to get high score, but also can
shoot the bombs before they hit you.
Coconut Island’s theme and background
are tropical, and it does a good job of incorporating that
environment into the graphics and game design. The graphics
are simple yet very sharp, the animations are fun and fit
the theme. Game play is also very simple but addictive, especially
if you play the Tournament mode. Having three games in one
package will attract more gamers. You can also play the Two
Player mode in Coconut 4 game where one of you gets to be
the monkey. You control the game with the stylus.
The sound effects in Coconut Island are
very sweet. There are sound bites of jungles including birds
chirping and bongos playing. Each action has a sound FX and
each animation brings out funny and cute sound bites. Coconut
Island supports all Pocket PC devices including ARM/Xscale,
MIPS and SH3.
A good balance between action and
relaxing game of Crusoe gives this game a wide range attraction.
Easy to pick up and play makes it a crowd pleaser. So,
enjoy the sun on the beach while outwit the monkeys and
stay alive.
Playing Hints and Tips:
In Slingshot, don’t catch the crossbones
bombs. They will kill you. Shoot the bombs first before they
hit you. |
